January 30, 2013: Massena Dash update: Unfortunately, because of trail conditions, the 4th Annual Massena Dash has been cancelled. The race registrar, Christina Gates, will be in contact with all interested parties and registrants to confirm this and will ask if registrants would like their registration checks returned or destroyed. We thank you for your continued interest in the Massena Dash and look forward to a snowier 2014.
January 28, 2013: Massena Dash update: It is currently snowing in Massena. Despite forecast temperatures and impending weather, we are remaining optimistic. Spencer will re-check the trail on Wednesday afternoon and make a final call whether the event is on or off. The final call will be posted here no later than 9:00PM on Wednesday evening. Thank you for your patience and think snow! We hope to see you in Massena this weekend.
January 28, 2013: Massena Dash update: Spencer Thew, the trail boss, is currently evaluating the trail conditions. It's customary to call the race on or off by Wednesday of the preceding week and we will do that, but we are hoping to make the call today if possible. We will post the call right here as soon as we possibly can. Christina will also call and e-mail all registrants and anyone else who she has contact info for. Please e-mail her at christina@subzerodogs.org to send your contact info if you would like a call and e-mail.
January 16, 2013: Updated details about the dinner, cost is $15 and there will be a new expanded menu.

Registration deadline is Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 5:00pm, after this time you cannot register or switch classes. Bib draw will be completed Friday night by midnight. Non-refundable entries fee must be paid by packet pick-up on Saturday.
Onsite entries will NOT be accepted on the morning of the race!

Event Description:
The Massena Dash is the premier event of the 4th Annual Massena Winter Carnival. The entire Winter Carnival spans over 7 days. The race is scheduled for Saturday, February 2 and Sunday, February 3.
On Saturday evening a Mushers Meet and Greet event will be held at the Village Inn which is located at 181 State Highway 37B, Massena, NY. The phone for the inn is 315-769-6910. The cost of this event is $15 per person which includes a generous spread of appetizers and finger food and a new expanded menu, more than enough to fill your appetite. Drinks are available at the bar.
Closing Ceremonies will conclude the event after the sled dog races conclude on Sunday at Hawkins Point. A complementary pizza party for all in attendance given by the Chamber of Commerce will also include door prizes donated by local merchants.
Entry Eligibility Restrictions, Limitations and Requirements:
Purebred teams will need to provide purebred documentation if a dog is in question. American Kennel Club and Canadian Kennel Club documents will be accepted.
It is ArcticSDRA policy that all participants of ArcticSDRA racing events are required to be current ArcticSDRA members. Participants who are not current ArcticSDRA members may join during the registration process.

Our organizer preferred to not set times for specific events, but the above schedule shows an order of events. This is tentative and may change due to trail conditions.
Note that there may be breaks between groups in grouped classes (e.g. pro, purebred and sportsman groups).

Trail Description:
All trails are loop trails with no head-on passing. It is a beautiful trail with mostly flat, some gentle hills and curves.

There will be a $3,500 guaranteed purse for this event!
Trophies will be presented to the top 3 competitors in each group within each class (i.e. pro, purebred, sportsman), sponsored by the Greater Massena Chamber of Commerce.

The race will be held at 21 Hawkins Point Road, Massena, NY, near Robert Moses State Park. This site is slightly northeast of Massena and just south of the Moses-Saunders hydroelectric dam on the St. Lawrence river.

Directions to Massena from the Massena Chamber of Commerce:
From Canada:
Take the 401 to Cornwall (US Bridge/Brookdale Ave Exit) and follow Brookdale Ave/CR 2 East/Provincial Route 138 South. Enter roundabout and take exit to continue following Provincial Route 138 S/Seaway International Bridge. After processing at customs, follow the roundabout to the second exit onto NYS 37 West into Massena, Massena is less than 20 from Cornwall.
From Buffalo/Rochester/Syracuse:
Take US 81 North to Alexandria Bay exit 50 N, to NY 12 N which becomes NY State Highway 37 E. Stay on NYS 37 E to Massena.
From Vermont:
Take Interstate 89 north to exit 21 (Swanton). Follow Route 78 west to Rouses Point (Route 78 merges with Route 2). Follow U.S. Route 11 south to Malone: turn right onto Route 37 W to Massena.
From Albany:
Take US 87 N (Adirondack Northway) to Plattsburgh; bear right onto exit ramp 42 (Mooers/Rouses Point) to US 11. Turn left onto 11 and follow US 11 to Malone. Turn right onto NYS 37 W in Malone and continue on NYS W into Massena.
